Six Small Business Bookkeeping Mistakes to Avoid: Part two
The following three tips are continued from last month’s blog. For the first three common mistakes small business owners make with bookkeeping, head over to the previous blog. If you’re all caught up, here are bookkeeping errors four through six:
4. Not having backups.
Whether your bookkeeping is entirely digital or entirely physical, keep backups of everything. Especially where technology is concerned, make sure you’re prepared if something should happen to your data. If a problem can happen, it probably will.
5. Failing to account for sales tax.
A common error with small business bookkeeping is not recording or factoring in sales tax. In the case of this mistake, you could be fined or penalized. Be diligent to keep track of sales tax and to do it as accurately as possible.
6. Poor communication.
Keeping an open line of communication between your company and your bookkeeper will prevent mistakes from occurring later.
