Back to School Savings

Back to School Savings

As back to school approaches, we find ourselves at the store stocking up on supplies for the school year. You want to send your kids to school with the tools for success, but school supplies can get a bit pricey. Whether your kids are just starting school or going off to college, here are some tips to help you save money on supplies.

  1. Use supplies from last year. Before you go out shopping for new items, make sure that your supplies from the previous year aren’t in usable condition. Lunchboxes, bookbags, pencil cases and more can often be reused.

  2. Shop on tax free weekend. Tax free weekend is a great time to save money on school supplies, especially the more pricey items. Take advantage of this money saving weekend and shop on tax free weekend.

  3. Rent or share expensive items. Graphing calculators, computers, and even textbooks can be very expensive. Save money on these big spends by renting them for the period of time you would use them. Some items you can even share and split the cost with friends and classmates to save money.

  4. Buy in bulk. Buying in bulk can save you a large percentage of money, especially for those who have multiple kids in school. Buying in bulk is cheaper and can ensure you have certain supplies for years to come.
